Hotel buffets are still some of our favourite places to break fast with friends and family. The calming ambience, variety and overall food quality simply makes it an ideal spot. Paya Serai @ Hilton Petaling Jaya welcomes guests to break their fast at its Halal-certified all-day dining restaurant, Paya Serai, with an assisted buffet dinner specially curated in honour of the celebrated artist, Tan Sri P. Ramlee.
This assisted buffet dinner is part of the nationwide “Chup! Makan Dulu” promotion by Hilton hotels in Malaysia. We had the privilege of visiting and trying out the buffet spread to share it with all of you.
With over 300 delicacies to choose from, having ‘no variety’ will be the least of your worries. From flavourful local delicacies to fresh seafood and BBQ lamb, you will find yourself spoilt with choices.
Having said that, let’s dive into some of our personal favourites that you should not miss!
1.Kambing mamak special dengan briyani
Let’s be honest, if you are going to be filling yourself up with carbs, it better be worth it! Fragrant fluffy rice with soft and tender lamb cubes that melts in your mouth. We’d normally say ‘no’ to carbs at a buffet, but this was just too good.
2. Kari ketam utara dengan ubi keledek
Fresh crabs are great, but curry made with fresh crabs are even better! Drizzle some of that curry over your mutton briyani and you’ve got a winner! The starchiness and sweetness of the sweet potatoes really enhances the curry’s creaminess and flavours. Topped with the subtle sweetness of the crab, this dish was fabulous!
3. Tandoori Chicken
Every now and then, you stumble upon a dish that catches you off guard. This is the case with the tandoori chicken we enjoyed at Paya Serai. Not only was the tandoori chicken moist and tender, but it was also perfectly seasoned to our liking (Tandoori tends to be overly salty).
At Paya Serai, you can also indulge in a wide selection of sweet treats. From cakes to traditional kuih and potong ice-cream, the only thing you will need to worry about is getting a sugar high. Be sure to reserve some space to enjoy some of the many dessert items they have here for you!
The tribute is taken up a notch with a special display of Tan Sri P. Ramlee’s mementos, which include his typewriter, clothes, trishaw and other antiques. On top of that, the restaurant was also airing some of the seniman’s award-winning films and chart-topping music.
To sum it up, if you are looking for a spot to groove to good ol’ P. Ramlee music while enjoying some good food, you better pick up that phone and book a spot before all slots are taken.
