Yatra @ Bandar Sri Damansara

Updated: Jun 28, 2021

Yatra @ Bandar Sri Damansara is an Indian restaurant that serves up authentic Indian cuisine. There aren’t many authentic Indian restaurants around the Kepong – Sungai Buloh area which definitely makes Yatra’s offerings rather unique.

During our visit, we tried out Yatra’s Thali Briyani Rice with Mutton Chettinad (RM33), Yatra’s Fried Chicken (RM19), Tiger Prawn Masala (RM 40+), and the Palak Paneer (RM21).

All of Yatra’s Thali Rice set comes complete with 3 vegetables, dhal, rasam, sothi, papadam, pickles, raita and yogurt chili. While the rice was cooked nice and fluffy, we did feel that the briyani could do with more flavour and seasoning. Nevertheless, the milder briyani flavour made it good for pairing with the various sauces as well as side dishes. Furthermore, the portion is generous and can be shared by two.

In terms of the side dishes, the Yatra fried chicken was excellent. Consisting of only chicken breast, the meat was tender, juicy and flavourful. The Mutton Chettinad had flavours that resembles kam heong style cooking with the incorporation of dried chili. Both the chicken and mutton caught us by surprise as the presentation did seem as though the meat would be a bit dry. It was a pleasant surprise nonetheless to discover that both meats were well prepared and complemented the briyani rice really well.

To end our night, we had a go at Yatra’s sweet appam and a cup of masala chai. A great way to end the night on a sweeter note. It was my first time trying the sweet appam and in my opinion, it tasted similar to a pink steamed bun (Ki Ka Ku) 喜板 but with a crispy outer layer. When enjoyed on its own, it does not have much sweetness to it aside from the little grains of sugar sprinkled on it. But when dipped with the sweetened coconut milk, appam comes to life!

All in all, we are couldn’t be happier to have authentic Indian cuisine in the greater Kepong – Sungai Buloh area. Anyone who is looking to enjoy a Indian cuisine without the hassle of travelling down to Brickfields or Seksyen 14 can definitely head over to Yatra.
